More Australian councils are adopting a grants search tool that saves them time and effort and makes it easier for community organisations to raise essential funds.
The SmartySearch tool generates a tailored grant search portal based on the needs of individual councils and their grantseeking communities, with funding opportunities taken from the Funding Centre database. A team of grants watchers continually updates it with the latest grants from SmartyGrants and other funders across Australia.
Funding Centre manager Stef Ball – who manages the plug-in tool and curates the Australian grants database – said SmartySearch made it much easier for grantseekers to access grants information.

“SmartySearch is transforming how councils support their communities, offering a streamlined and effective grantseeking process,” she said.
The system is designed to allow councils to embed grant opportunities onto their own websites, with that information provided freely to their communities.
You can see the SmartySearch function in action on these council sites:
Representatives from Bundaberg Regional Council said SmartySearch had reduced the time community groups spent hunting for funding options, and it had been a great resource for schools, religious groups and businesses.
The East Pilbara Shire Council said the tool had been easy to roll out and had “enabled us to support organisations in accessing external funding to deliver initiatives that benefit our communities”.
SmartyGrants users are eligible for a discount.
